Heartbreaking Update on UPS Crash: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The number of victims due to the UPS cargo plane that ignited and plummeted has now climbed to 13, as confirmed by official reports.

City Leader's Statement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I received word of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the aircraft crash,” expressed the municipal leader in a online message. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, companions and colleagues of all who were taken in this recent disaster. We will endure this as one.”

Victims Confirmed

An announcement from the company identified the pilots aboard the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to all staff member who has been touched and everyone in our local area – supporting you and guaranteeing you obtain the attention and aid you need is our priority,” the company’s communication expressed.

Inquiry Updates

National investigators revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s wing burst into flames and an motor detached just after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the plane to fall and burst into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is probing the aircraft’s upkeep logs, which was in Texas for fixes weeks before the accident.

Aviation records indicated the aircraft was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from early September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was located in San Antonio,” remarked an official on the following day, not giving a specific date range. “We will review each aspect of maintenance that was completed, including the San Antonio time, all the way to the time of the flight.”

Retrieval of Critical Items

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were found, and the power plant was discovered on the runway.

The units – called flight recorders – were designed to survive crash impacts and intense fire from fires, and they appeared to be in one piece when found among the wreckage. Officials plan on analyzing data from the black boxes.

The plane’s final data recordings showed an altitude of 475 feet and a velocity of that speed before the crash.

Repair History

According to aviation authority documents from that date, a crack on a part inside the fuel container needed maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which said it supplies airframe maintenance for the carrier’s aircraft and manages a maintenance center in San Antonio, refused to provide remarks, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators contacted it.

Operations Restart

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport services continued Wednesday night with its overnight or evening operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer confirmed. Each of the three landing strips at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the organization’s biggest. The hub hires more than a large number of workers in the locality, processes 300 trips daily and sorts more than a huge volume of packages per hour.

Local Reaction

A candlelight vigil was organized on the evening of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which represents staff at the airfield, the organization’s largest freight center.

The union chapter, which supports staff, started the vigil with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the estimated hour of the incident previously.

“This event was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the official told the assembly of 200. “No one had a opportunity to part to each of those who we have mourned.”
