The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – a record for an F1 team – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to ownership structure last September. The Austrian executive, who holds a 33% stake of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding in the region of 5%. Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team boss and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Shareholder Breakdown Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the company. An official representative stated: "We are providing no comment on the matter. The governance of the team will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to the ongoing success of Mercedes-Benz in F1." Financial Growth This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in value of the Mercedes team after Ineos bought its share for £208 million in 2022. The rise reflects the growth in market values of Formula 1 outfits in the past few years due to the increasing appeal of Formula 1 around the world. This was also seen in the box-office performance of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and has grossed more than $630m (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the highest-earning sports movie ever released. Present Standings Mercedes are runner-up in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren Racing, with three races remaining in the current championship. Their lead driver British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team won a unprecedented eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
